I finally held my first "current events" meeting and it was a lot of fun!! I have felt that I should do this for a couple of months, but when I read the scriptures the other day I knew I couldn't put it off any longer. I was just doing my regular reading (wasn't looking for scriptures on liberty or anything) and I was on Ether Ch. 8. I will just put on here part of the heading - it is Moroni speaking, "Modern Gentiles are warned against the secret combination which shall seek to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries." When I read this, I knew it was talking about today, and talking to me. I would advise all to read the whole chapter. The first part of the chapter is about what is going on with the people of Ether, but then Moroni takes a time out to talk to us, the people of the latter days.
A couple hightlights of the chapter is "...the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be. (verse 23)" And then in verse 24 it says, "Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you... (vs 25) For it cometh to pass that whoso buileth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies..."
All I know is that when I stand before the bar of God I want to be able to say that I did what I could to preserve freedom. Our meeting is non-partisan, and I can say that with confidence because what we are fighting is found in BOTH parties. However, the problem does seem to be more prevelant in the Democrate party. What we are fighting is Progressivism. But the main purpose of the meeting is not about "dooms day" - we want to be positive and optimistic at all times. The main thing we want to do is be aware of what is going on at all levels of government - what is being voted on, etc. and attend town council meetings and write our representatives about current issues and VOTE.
I may not be able to single handedly stop Obama from what he is doing, but if enough conservatives stand up and voice their opinion, we can slow him down. We have been through similar things in the past, and we were able to get through it and "clean up" and at least somewhat restore conservative values. We are a LONG way from the 1700's but we can at least make a difference. Not that what Obama is doing is "modern" as he would like to say - People who love freedom and conservative values have been fighting people like him and what he stands for since the beginning of time.

I was totally against Obama and did not vote for him, but today he just passed a law regarding tobacco use targeting young kids which is a big step since he is a smoker himself. I was really impressed with it and I hope he continues to impress!
I am quite shocked that these were the only two comments on the matter.
Well, what I and others like me are fighting is MUCH MUCH bigger than Obama, but he is part of it. So, I am going to assume that Erika gets most of her information from liberal media like ABC or NBC. I cannot believe that is all she had to say about Obama.
How about the fact that he has already spent more than our ten year war on terror in just a few months, and he spent it not on keeping us safe but on CRAP like giving millions to an organization called ACORN (who all know is a very corrupt org.) and millions on abortion clinics - not just here but all over the world, and lots of other CRAP.
Or, how about the fact that he has taken over the banks, the auto industry, and is trying to now take over the insurance industry and the medical industry - and who knows what comes after that - the grocery industry??? Obama is trying to be in charge of every detail of our everyday lives. I really don't think that we want the governmnet to tell us what we can and can't do in the nitty gritty details of our lives - I don't think that is very impressive!!!
I think what Erika said was very mature considering she didn't vote for him in the first place. It takes more to see the good in the people you don't like than to point out their faults. At least that's my opinion on the matter.
It isn't Obaba's "faults" I am worried about, it is his policy and his goals that I am worried about. He wants to turn our country into a Communist nation - I know that because of who he has surrounded himself in the White House. All of his personally appointed Zars are anti-Free market, and several of them are self-proclaimed radical communists.
I love my country and the constitution as set up by the founding fathers too much to ignore these things. If being uneducated makes you "feel good inside" go ahead and ignore the facts. Over 30% of the population is completely outraged by Obama, and many of them are people who voted for him.
I probably shouldn't be so harsh. I know that making people feel stupid is not the best tactic to get them to open their eyes. I realize that You and Erika are just in the dark, so there is no way for you to know that your liberty is under direct attack by our own president.
Just do one thing for me...start watching some Fox News, and not just NBC. ABC is just starting to report on what is happening. They aren't the best source though cause they are always a step behind FOX. They get their information from FOX - they hired someone to watch FOX to report information from them.
I am sorry if I come across as rude, but I have a strong passion for this country and the Republic - the freedom it carries and has brought to the world. The gospel of Jesus Christ is only made possible by the freedom of religion. It is very frustrating when people are completely uneducated about what is happening. Satan is working VERY HARD to destroy freedom around the world, and progress he has made over the centuries is coming together, and the constitution is nearly hanging by a thread.
